The Horticultural Expo officially opened in Beijing on 29 April 2019 with the theme Live Green, Live Better. Many countries and organisations are showcasing their concepts and ideas in horticulture and green technology, and the opportunity they present in contributing to sustainable urban development, on the 960-hectare Expo area until 7 October 2019.

The 2,016 m² German Garden provides inspiration for innovation as an example of Germany's commitment to mastering environmental challenges with Seeding the Future as the theme.

The German Pavilion located at the centre of the German Garden reflects the diverse natural areas in Germany with a tour of the nation's natural landscapes. The Pavilion houses an astonishingly impressive array of illustrative examples and exhibits such as how the City of Essen turned from an industrial site into a Green Capital of Europe, and the great role that bees will play in the future of mankind.

The Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) is responsible for organising the German Garden.
